Church Ministries

Ministries Within Our Walls

Acolyte – Boys and Girls, ages 8-13 serve as helpers for the pastor during the worship services. Duties include delivering messages to the pastor, lighting candles, and other tasks as needed. Meetings are second Fridays, 5-6 p.m.

Anvil Club – Members provide supervision in the nursery on Sundays.

Christian Social Action Forum – This committee hosts special interest presentations, venues featuring political candidates, and voting information.

Debutante Master Commission – The commission focuses on dedication to Christian service. It is the A.M.E. Christian Rite of Passage. Ages 9 through 21 can participate in this district-wide ceremony held at the Chicago Annual Conference. Rehearsals are mandatory and are held in Chicago.

Doers Club – These helpful, tireless hands prepare food for funerals, special dinners, church conferences, and other events. They feature a soul food dinner every year.

Evangelism Ministy – Creates and trains disciples, teaches door-to-door ministry on third Saturdays, and visits prisons on fourth Saturdays. Meetings are held on fourth Saturdays at 1:00 p.m.

Geraldine Bradford Women’s Missionary Society – Implements the entire missionary program through study of the Bible and the A.M.E.C. The group develops service projects for the community including maintaining the food pantry and distribution of clothes. They host the annual Fall Bazaar, the Back-to-School Rally in September and work with the Rescue Mission. Meetings are held second Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.

Historical Society – Members preserve photographs and compile valuable documents of the church history. They collect and display historical information about the church and its members. Meetings are scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Hospitality Ministry – The purpose of this ministry shall be to warmly meet and greet all who enter the doors of our church to worship, and make them feel comfortable and welcome! This is true for our own church family members as well as for our visitors. The overall aim is to enhance all worship experiences with Christ-like friendliness.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry – The mission of the St. Mark Intercessory Prayer Ministry is to pray fervently and consistently for the pastor’s needs and ministry of St. Mark A.M.E. Church as well as the lost and undelivered of the Milwaukee community. They meet weekly on Wednesdays 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Lovell Johnson Club – This club raises funds for the existing pastor of the church. It was started to aid the late Rev. Lovell Johnson in his campaign for Bishop. Meetings are held on second Saturdays at 2:00 p.m.

Marguerite Johnson Service Club – Service organization for the church and community. Young women are invited to join.

Luvenia Offutt Club – Tasks include visiting the sick, sending cards, and taking gifts to residents in nursing homes at Christmas and Easter.

Men’s Fellowship Club – This group provides fellowship for the church, cooks famous breakfasts and great barbecue, secures speakers for church events, and coordinates special projects throughout the year. Meetings are held second Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.

Music Ministry – The various choirs along with the various pianist and organists provide music as a form of God’s ministry in worship services, funerals, weddings, concerts, and conferences. There are 6 choral groups that rehearse throughout the week.

Nurses Guild – Members are present at all church services, wakes, and funerals. They visit the sick and shut-in at home or in nursing facilities. Fourth Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. are meeting times.

Pastor’s Aid Club – They assist the pastor in any church event on any Sunday, weekday, or evening.

Praise Dancers – These preteen and teenaged girls praise God through dance on many occasions as well as third Sundays at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Rehearsals are Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Scouts – The goal is to teach life skills, habits, values, and promote a positive attitude consistent with the interest of the church. Boy scouts meet Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.

Quality of Life Center – Seeks to translate our preaching into practice through continuing programs of education, employment, health, family life, senior citizen, economic development, legal aid, and other areas of need. Services are ongoing throughout the year. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday. Tutoring is offered Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Karate Club is offered throughout the season except for the months of July and August. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays at noon. The purpose is to promote the idea of physical, mental, and emotional health. There is also Friday Recreation – open to community youths.

R.A.Y.A.C. – Its purpose is the development of lay leadership among youth and adults and to encourage them to be involved in the total life of the church.

Scholarship Committee – This group provides high school and college scholarship information. They offer scholarships to St. Mark graduates and recognize honor roll students of the church in grades on through twelve. Meetings are held when needed.

Sunday Church School – The church school is the teaching arm of the church and the foundation of Christian education and development. Students study the Bible and the A.M.E. discipline, present special programs, and are responsible for reviewing and learning biblical lessons and scripture. Church School is every Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.

Stewardess Board – They visit the sick, serve at funerals, and set up the communion table on first Sundays. Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m.

Usher Board (Youth and Senior) – The door-keepers in the House of God. Ushers serve on Sundays, at funerals or special programs held at church. Senior ushers meet at 10:00 on Saturday before the third Sunday. Junior ushers meet 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays before the third Sundays.

Vacation Bible School – Students learn more about the true power of Jesus through his miracles and parables. Through worship, crafts, and songs this goal is obtained. Usually held in June.

Wedding Ministry – The wedding ministry is designed to address the needs of wedding parties using the church facility. They assist at all weddings and ensure that church guidelines are being followed and upheld. Meetings are held as needed.

Youth Church – This opportunity if given to our preteen and teenage members to worship in their own special service. Youth church is held on fourth Sundays at 11:00 a.m.
