St. Mark A.M.E. Church

Welcome to the offical website of St. Mark AME Church, the "Church of the Anvil" located at 1616 W. Atkinson Ave. in the great city of Milwaukee, WI. 

As the redeemed people of God, who are called the church, our mission is to proclaim the good news of salvation for the winning of souls to Christ through dynamic worship, evangelism, Christian education, social outreach, and enriching fellowship. We believe salvation must include the Lordship of Jesus Christ over our time, talents, and offerings.

The Church of the Anvil
Historically speaking, the anvil is our connectional symbol, and an expression of our history and faith. Reason being that our first A.M.E. Church (Bethel) was established in a blacksmith shop. The external shape of St. Mark's edifice is expressive of an anvil. Replicas of the anvil are also set in each stained glass window. The three points at the front of the church (16th and Atkinson) symbolize the three main points of our motto: "God our Father; Christ our Redeemer; Man our Brother."
